Toy Chest: Sprig Dolphin Explorer Boat

Gordon's Fish Sticks, Eat Your Heart Out.
Though the Sprig Discovery Rig has gone on plenty of adventures both in the Family Room and outside on walks, one place it fears - due to its kinetic generator and other electrical parts - is the water.

Enter the Sprig Dolphin Explorer Boat.

Equal parts durable and adorable, (which is what the company's slogan should be... you're welcome Marketing.) the Dolphin Explorer comes with a Skipper with removable rain hat and backpack, a rescue boat, mommy and baby dolphin, and a life preserver.

The Explorer Boat itself is hefty and floats well, though the need to have a seam around the bow of the boat for drainage means that the boat can easily capsize once it's fallen victim to a toddler tidal wave.  No bother, as far as I'm concerned with the bathtub or Grandparents' pool. But parents might want to keep that in mind before they bring it to a lake or other deep water.

Like all of the Sprig products I've experienced, the durability and minimalist design is the most attractive aspect of the entire philosophy of the company.  The boat is just that - a boat.  Whether it's a fishing boat, a rescue boat, a science exploration boat, or a boat to the moon (as the Mu has told me before) - it's up to the child.  It encourages kids to make up their own stories, which is so appreciated in this "here is how you are entertained" world.

My only complaint is that since the Mu has figured out how to take off the little latter on the back of the boat, that's the first thing he does when he gets it.  This either requires me to pop it back into place or remove it entirely.  A little glue would have helped to keep that baby on there permanently.  I may employ some rubber cement to do just that.

Still, as far as bath toys and potential gifts go - this never goes unplayed each night.
