As someone who continues to explore the niche hobby of specialty board games, there is one name that constantly comes up – Kinizia, Kinizia, Kinizia. Apparently, Dr. Reiner Kinizia is one of the most prolific and successful board game designers ever, having one multiple “Game of the Year” awards.

Kinizia took on the “Lord of the Rings” license in 2000 and put out several games with great acclaim. “Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation” is a take on the two-player, deduction strategy games as seen in the classic “Stratego.” Playing as either the characters from the Fellowship of the Ring, or the minons of Mordor, players attempt to either infiltrate the other player’s “base” – here, either the Shire or Mordor; or try to destroy/defend Frodo.

Game Closet: Word on the Street

Out of the Box Publishing, Inc. Word On The Street - The Hilarious Tug Of WordsI like word games...

Correction: I like 'Scrabble.' Word games, in general, are not my cup of tea, but Scrabble is a classic and many a Thanksgiving has been spent playing Scrabble in the SuperRad extended family.  Personally, I feel that I should have retired from the game after spelling 'hexagon' in one game, but the simplicity and light competitiveness of Scrabble is easy for anyone to swallow.

Don't get me started on 'Bananagrams,' though; ugg - that's a game for people who say they want to play a game, but would rather be by themselves.

'Word on the Street,' however, may have just unseated Scrabble as my favorite Word game, it manages to be a fun, interactive, and competitive experience for two players AND doubles as a loud, intense party game for two teams.
